Lesson No 8-Data Analysis 1-Qualitative Data

Data Analysis of Qualitative Data
There are several strategies related the qualitative data analysis like interviews and observations. In interviews, the strategies for analyzing interviews can begin with case analysis or cross case analysis. For case analysis, researchers can write a case study for each person interviewed or for cross case analysis, analysis can be done from groups that answer together from different people or from common questions or analyzing different perspectives on central issues. Strategies for analyzing observations are (1) chronology-describe what was observed chronologically, over time, to tell story from beginning to end (2) key events-present the data by critical incidents or major events, not necessarily in order of occurence but in order of importance (3) various settings-describe various places, sites, settings, or locations before doing cross setting pattern analysis. From observations, researchers can observe people or individuals or groups as the primary unit of analysis or can be observed from perspective of case studies of people or groups. The processes of analysis is the data may be organized to describe important processes or issues and the observation may be pulled together to illuminate key issues, often the equivalent of the primary evaluation questions, such as how did participants change?
From Theory to Practice
With regards to the strategies applied, I will use chronology whereby the chronology of writers behaviors through three processes of planning, translating and behaviors. The second strategy is key events during thinking aloud protocols whereby the transcribes of the TAP will be use to identify key writers strategies while composing an ESL writings. The third strategy is to use two places of which located in the same vicinity, that is, NDU and RMC. Using both strategies of observations and interviews, it is hopefully my research will covers issues of differences in writings between ethnics group, genders and age group and possibly between two institution.
